OK, not the progress we had hoped...

But at least there was progress.

The goal for the weekend was to get the parts we had on the car and a quick shake down of those parts. Key parts were getting the lightweight flywheel install and reinstall of the tranny, and then air intake and exhaust.

The newfly wheel is just gorgeous... And the reported weight difference is 11 pounds. (we were to excited to assemble that we forgot to weigh it).

The assembly went smoothly, we are really enjoying the mid-engine layout.

The 'stab' should have taken about an hour we guessed. It was about two hours into it they we took a break for lunch and to think through what might be wrong. Headed back out to the garage, both looked over the fresh throw out bearing and how it and the arm was assembled. Next we pulled the clutch off and doubled check that it would mate up with the splines. It did, but it was a really close tolerance and it needed to be lined up perfectly.

Clutch re-assembled, stab successfully, an hour later we where moving on to bleeding the clutch. We are guessing that we didn't have the clutch linedup the first time.

The clutch bleed should take only about 30 mins, tops, right...

So, bleeding a clutch on a Cayman isn't the easiest thing to do, but it is much easier once you know how...

First issue is access to the bleeder; Stan 'built' a special tool, I will let him brag about that.

The second issue is the helper spring on the clutch peddle; with no hydraulic pressure the peddle will slam to the floor.

After much trial and error, we used a vacuum bleeder to get most of the air out of the system. Then we went back to working the peddle, but you have to contol the down stroke, fight the helper spring, it must pump slowly. Finally, clutch peddle pressure!

Final bits for the weekend included hooking up the shifter, finishing the oil change, and started laying out the intake work.

I have the day off today, if I don't end up playing catchup at work, I might try to get the intake done this afternoon.

So much left to do... March is getting really close,
